Lack of Blogging?
Yeah....sorry about that guys.
I have had quite the year and this last month was the cherry on top. And by that I mean this year has kind of sucked with a bunch of good things thrown in but I was dealt the final emotional blow and I have just been watching lots of movies, reading, and going to work. Work takes what little effort I have left in my system.
To start of the story of my year the picture above is of me and my good friend Will going to my Senior Winter Formal. We have been friends from junior high up to college through likes and shyness, break-ups and new interests, becoming an artist and joining the Marines. I met Will when we were both in 8th grade and I liked his skinny butt from the start. He had these really intense green eyes and he was a total dork, but so was I. Will passed away in January from a motorcycle accident that left him in a coma for four days. He hit a car that made a left-hand turn in front of him when Will had the right-of-way; he went into a controlled slide but he was too close to the car and there was nothing he could do. This is just the first of many hard events this past year. I miss Will every day, he was one of those guys you just had to love. Will told me the day after the dance that he was sorry he forgot to tell me how pretty I looked but that I had been a green-eyed goddess in my dress. He was always painfully shy and we were also just friends at the time, I was surprised he mustered the courage just to type that on AIM.
I just wanted to say I fully intend of continuing this blog and will be making some artistic progress this next year for the first time in a year and a half I'd say. I have had a few breakthroughs but most of my pieces have been weak this entire year. But oh man, 2012 you are going to be MY year. Even if you end with a bang (the world ending and all) you will be the best year of my life to date. I won't settle for anything less.
To everyone out there I wish a great upcoming week!

Coffee In My System
Oh that coffee feels good.
Off to school, but I felt I should write a little blurb. The opening reception for the show I am in is tomorrow, very excited to see my work with all the other pieces!
Today is cloudy, so my mood is great.
I am working in the fitting room tonight so that means I won't have to worry about the zone as much as sales floor, and I also shouldn't be training people. That's a plus.
Have I mentioned the coffee?
It's good.

Your Patronizing Tone Is Aggravating So Stop It
Please, for the love of all good things, do not belittle the person answering the phone of your frequented retailer. At my job I often work as operator as well as doing a plethora of other jobs at the same time. Today I had two obnoxious guests whose immediate impatience and pointed questions told me one thing, "We know you are an idiot, let me talk to someone who get's paid more than minimum wage."
One guest got herself in a tizzy when I had her repeat what she had said, she proceeded to spell it out for me letter by letter. I am sorry that your inane babble is unintelligible; don't force your stupidity on me. The other guest got worked up when he asked if he could speak to a manager about finding something in our store and I said I would help him. The sad man couldn't realize that the managers at our store don't know the layout and contents quite as well as the sales floor members.
It's a tick of mine, but I hate when people assume they are dealing with an idiot because they are at a retail store. Contrary to the popular belief I am well read, witty (usually), and working at this place because art isn't a field that's easy to get into right away. Also, I control the phones! Next time I am transferring you to all the wrong people before I forget your line and drop your call.
So please, be nice to the voice on the other end of the phone. Just because they say, "We are out of [item you are sure they had]" doesn't mean they are dolts who don't know a thing. Maybe it means that store, contrary to your belief, just doesn't carry what you want.
Sorry for the rant, I'm a wee bit tired and apparently still wound up about it. I am sure you are all polite people who are kind to retail workers, waiters, and the like . Thanks for reading!

November At Last!
It is finally beginning to get a little chilly. This means that I can carry around a sweater and not look crazy. This is important because my evening class on Wednesdays in in the basement which is extremely cold and it's hard to concentrate in that room. I also have at least 20 scarves (more than any woman in Arizona should own) and I have been looking at more scarves at work and I really just need weather below 60° as an outlet for my obvious mental issues involving scarves and hot Pumpkin Spice lattes.
So I got into a show at school, I just submitted one painting (actually, the one below) and I probably could have submitted more, but that's all right. I just can't wait until this semester is over and I can just work like a fiend at Christmas time, get some extra cash, and set off for a mini road trip.
Halloween was interesting, was if for everyone else? Best costume ever goes to...................two guys on Mill who were dress as Carl and Russel from Pixar's Up. They had balloons.
Well that's all I have for today, but I hope to write more soon. If you want more of me or more art go to the Art Fortune blog! Enjoy the weather, wherever you are.

Red
It's my favorite color. I love how much it can represent: love, death, passion, hatred, fire, rage, heat, blood, lipstick. Alright, so I know there are other shades of lipstick but who are we kidding? Red is simply the best and I look good in it.
I fell in love with the versatility of red, it's ability to melt into flesh tones and spark on the canvas of an abstract painting. Perhaps I was entranced after my affair with blue fizzled out. Blue was my favorite color from second grade (a very conscious decision that as a girl I did not like pink) until the end of high school when I came to the realization that blue had been replaced. It was like waking up to realize you are in love. So here is one of many of my love letters to that jewel of a color. It's about a year old. I need to paint more often and more importantly, like this again.

I suppose I'll begin here...
This is a blog. This is a blog by myself, Marielle Morris. This is a blog about myself, Marielle Morris, and how I do art things. Yes, art things can be a term. You know what, I'm a painter and I'm decent at math; the English language still alludes me. I do hope to interest you later but this is all that formal "getting to know you" stuff that you can pretty much tune out. I won't be offended if you forget this, just remember the more important stuff later on. This is going to be a place where I will talk about art (mainly artwork of my own as a shameless plug), and also a place to talk about life because life is sort of art and this sentence is nowhere near deep. So here it is: all my grammatical errors, my insecurities, and my pretty decent art. And yeah, I'm really not sure how this* is done.
* This being art, life, but mainly blogging.
